About Me.
Just a normal guy, who’s done all the normal stuff. I am grateful that I’ve had quite a varied working life, which has included periods working in the beautiful mountains of West Virginia, and a busy Amazon fulfilment Centre during lockdown, as well as twenty five years fulfilling a number of roles in training and further education,
I’ve worked in oil depots, grain silos and even a Job Centre (and if you know what they are, you are old!). But for the last 25 years I have worked in Further Education designing and delivering courses to make a difference to people’s lives, outlooks, and opportunities.
This can be very exacting work, which requires no small amount of focus, attention to detail, a lot of listening and understanding processes and regulations.
You might imagine that in my spare time, I would look to do something very different; something which allows me to express myself and think freely. When younger, I played a good standard of cricket, and played for a local football team for over a decade. These days, it’s more about painting, drawing, playing guitar, walking and travelling (I have family in West Africa and the USA, but particularly enjoy trips to the Balkans and Scandinavia). Experience tells me that life is unpredictable and tomorrow is not promised. We play the cards we are dealt and make the most fo each day.
My Art.
My art draws influences from many different areas, from the timeless pieces by Turner, Constable, and Gercken, through the endearing works of LS Lowry and Helen Bradley, the stark designs of the Bauhaus, the pop art of Andy Warhol, through to modern graphic design of Peter Saville and Vaughan Oliver. In my journey I have found that true creativity knows no boundaries. Breaking away from a single genre allows a deeper exploration of all Art’s many opportunities. It’s not just about aesthetics though, it’s about evoking emotions, sparking thoughts and conversations, challenging the status quo; feeling and feeding the heart and the mind.
By joining me on this journey, you can become part of something. Not only do I hope that my artwork will stir your senses and challenge your perceptions, I also hope that your perceptions and thoughts will inspire me. Our community will celebrate the power of imagination, embrace diversity and seek to make both a difference and a newfound pleasure.
I’m delighted that you have taken the time to get to know about Oakhunger, and hope that this will be the start of a happy association and shared joys.
